Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
Just finished dinner with four migrant friends from Mexico City. I sat with Dulce-Maria who is a twenty-five year-old mother of two (ages 2 and 6). She’s on her way to meet her husband in Phoenix. He’s been able to find work as a carpenter and has arranged for the coyote who helped him across to guide her. Her front teeth are broken off, though her face is absolutely beautiful. She and her husband do not plan to bring their kids up to the United States because it’s so dangerous, so they’re staying with Dulce-Maria’s mother who is very afraid for her daughter as she now faces both the Border Patrol and the U.S. Army National Guard. She has a long journey ahead of her.
